11/30/2011 - Daytona Beach, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Christine Song fired a six-under 66 Wednesday to take the first-round lead of the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.
Amateur Stephanie Kono, a senior at UCLA, is alone in second place at five- under 67. Thidapa Suwannapura is third at four-under 68, followed by Brittany Johnston, who is fourth at three-under 69.
LPGA Q School is played over five rounds and two courses. For the first four rounds, golf rotates over the Champions Course and Legends Course at LPGA International.
There will be a cut after 72 holes for the low 70 and ties. The final round will take place at the Champions Course, then it gets really interesting.
The low 40 and ties receive LPGA Tour membership for 2012. For the remaining players who make the cut, they will earn some type of status on the Futures Tour.
Song, who made only three cuts in 10 starts on the LPGA Tour in 2011, began on the 10th tee on the Champions Course Wednesday and parred her first five holes. She birdied the par-four 15th, but parred her last three to make the turn at one-under par.
Song three-putted the second hole for her only bogey to fall back to even.
"That three-putt bogey got my head back together and after that, I went crazy," said Song, 20, who finished 126th this past season on the LPGA Tour money list.
After the three-putt bogey, Song birdied three in a row from the third. She parred No. 6, then closed her round with three consecutive birdies to get into the clubhouse with the lead.
Ginger Howard, Angela Oh, Whitney Neuhauser, Jodi Ewart, Minea Blomqvist, Jacqui Concolino, Mitsuki Katahira and Stephanie Na share fifth at two-under 70.

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
